What Is Environmental Education?

Kentucky Environmental Education Extension connects research based knowledge with practical strategies to help individuals and communities understand and care for the natural world. Programming focuses on topics such as natural resource conservation, water quality, soil health, wildlife habitats and sustainable land use. Through partnerships with the University of Kentucky and local, state and federal organizations, Environmental Education Extension supports informed decision making that protects Kentucky’s ecosystems while meeting the needs of its people.

Environmental Education programs are delivered through county Extension offices, schools and community partnerships, offering hands on learning experiences for youth and adults. Extension professionals provide workshops, field experiences and educational resources that encourage stewardship, environmental awareness and responsible management of natural resources. These efforts help build resilient communities by promoting practices that sustain Kentucky’s land, water and wildlife for future generations.
